On a run recently I spotted a small snail right in the middle of my path. In full sight of birds and other predators, wide-open to being stepped on or squashed, carrying a burden on its back, making terribly slow progress, trying to reach its destination all the while fully exposed. Tough times.
As I stopped, I realised other runners were coming. I placed my foot slightly out around the snail to prevent it from being stepped on. These other runners weren’t looking where they were going, they were completely oblivious to the small snail’s plight. But my presence by the snail meant they had to detour around and away from the snail.
It might feel at times that we’re exposed, but God “is faithful, and He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one” (2 Thessalonians 3:3). Just as I was aware of how far the snail had to go, its exposure level, the risks and dangers it was in, so too does God have the bigger picture when it comes to us. He is aware of the dangers, but they pose no threat to Him. He lifts us up to deliver us from the things or people that threaten to squash us (Psalm 18:48). He goes before us and is our rear guard (Isaiah 52:12).
God sees our coming and our going, He understands the journey ahead, and promises to be with us every step or shuffle. His “reassuring presence” is all around us (Psalm 139:5 MSG), watching, protecting, guarding, standing.
Keep going little one, He’s got you covered.
